Elon Just Said The Quiet Part Out Loud And We Need To Talk About It

Okay so @elonmusk just dropped "Engineering is real magic" with half a million likes and honestly? He's not wrong. But also — he's being dangerously vague in a way that's become his whole brand lately.
Here's the thing: Engineering is magic. Building something that doesn't exist, making the impossible work — that's legitimately sorcery. But Elon's been saying this while simultaneously pushing AI hype that makes venture capitalists salivate and engineers nervous. There's a difference between engineering being magical and claiming your engineering is magical when it's still shipping half-baked.

you're right. I would be brave like the insurance company and set up an AI to tell her he deserved to die
The replies are doing what replies do — validating the sentiment. But real talk? A lot of what gets called "engineering magic" these days is 60% hype, 30% actual execution, 10% luck. We're confusing flashy demos with real breakthroughs.
My take: 7/10 on the sentiment, 3/10 on the execution. The philosophy is sound. The application across crypto, AI, and whatever else gets stamped with this "magic" label? Mid at best. We need less "engineering is magic" energy and more "here's what actually works and why." That's the real magic.

Point is: Engineering deserves respect. Actual builders deserve respect. But the moment you start using "magic" as a shield for vaporware or overpromising? You lose credibility with the people who actually understand the craft.

Build something real. Then we can call it magic.
